Q. What styling tips do you have so I can wear my occasion dresses during the day?
You can re-work your occasion dresses by teaming them with different accessories, a relaxed hairstyle and a casual style jewelry, creating the perfect look for less 'dressy' occasions. For example, wearing a printed chiffon maxi dress with wedge sandals and swap the statement jewelry for something more simplistic, or a lace dress with a denim jacket and ballet flat.
Q. How long does it take to design & then make an ocassion dress?
Each dress is different, so the time really varies - sometimes it's a great dress shape in a lovely fabric which comes together quite quickly compared to something more complex like a wedding dress which has so many layers of different fabrics and embroidery placements to work with, these take a lot more time to perfect. Some styles have a hand beading which is time consuming and this type of workmanship adds to the value of the garment, making it feel luxurious and special.
Q. How do you get the right balance of vintage and modern style in each garment?
I have always been inspired by vintage fashion so incorporating that element is an important part of my design process - but I like to think that timeless designs are the perfect balance between vintage and modern. I might reference a classic vintage silhouette then mix it with a more modern fabric or print design for example.
Q. What is your all time favourite from the romance range?
My all time favourite Romance dress was the Unchained Melody Dress. It was so dramatic with the long fringing and the combination of fabrics and trims created a beautiful rich texture. I think it was quite different and I really enjoyed creating this.
